Oblomov is the most famous novel by the Russian writer Ivan Goncharov. The novel, which first appeared in 1858, is named after the protagonist, the young and generous Russian nobleman Ilya Oblomov, who is unable to make decisions or take action. For the first 150 pages of the book, he cannot even get out of bed, and for the rest of the book, he remains primarily in bed. His passivity costs him the love of Olga, who eventually chooses the energetic and disciplined Andrei Stolz.
