At the nearly four-hundred-year-old Goudkantoor, you can enjoy yourself in many ways. In the morning for breakfast and a good cup of coffee, in the afternoon for a soup or an extensive lunch, and in the evening for a delicious dinner. Moreover, the Goudkantoor is known as a cozy spot for drinks with an extensive beer and wine list.
The restaurant on the top floor offers you a magnificent view of the Waagplein, the old town hall, and the Grote Markt. This floor is particularly suitable for group packages, drinks receptions, and graduation parties!
In the summer, the Goudkantoor boasts one of the largest and coziest terraces in the city. Located directly behind the city hall and diagonally across from the Grote Markt, it is already lovely to spend time here around ten o'clock in the morning with a fresh cup of coffee in the sun. The terrace is popular with the many tourists visiting our city and is a regular hangout for many locals and students! On balmy summer evenings, people enjoy drinks here until the early hours.
The Goudkantoor was built in 1635 and was then called the Collectehuis. It served as a tax office for the City and surrounding area. The name dates from the period 1814–1887. At that time, the building was used as an Assay Office for Gold and Silverware. Gold and silver objects were hallmarked and marked here. Since then, the building has served many functions, including before, during, and after the war as a maritime museum and a tourist information office. Subsequently, during the construction of the new city hall—which has since been demolished—it served as a city hall or information desk for the Municipality of Groningen.
There are plenty of options for à la carte lunch, dinner, or drinks! You can find these on our website: www.goudkantoor.nl
