The Stadsschouwburg is one of the most important theatre venues in Groningen. The building dates from 1883 and was designed by Frederik Willen van Gendt and Hugo Pieter Vogel. The main hall has a classic layout with three superimposed rows of balconies. The Stadsschouwburg's programming is very broad and diverse. Music, singing, and theatre performed by professionals or up-and-coming young talent—they all find their place in the Stadsschouwburg.
