DIK DOUN IN TOENE ....or on the street

While on the phone with the publisher of horecagroningen.nl, I drove into the city last Friday. Beautiful! What beautiful? Well, everywhere on the street I see them lounging on benches, sitting on empty beer crates and makeshift stands. Turn on the widescreen and set it on fire…

Roasting is grilling pieces of meat or fish over an open fire. If we do this outdoors (cookout), then it is barbecuing...or in proper Groningen dialect: DIK DOUN IN TOENE.

The golden-yellow liquid named beer is quite tasty with a dish with a spicy smoky flavor, but here are my top 3 wines: red, white, and rosé. Note: I view a “BBQ wine” as a respected wine that matches the deliciousness of the grill, and not the one mentioned above.

RED:  Shiraz Geographe, Fermoy Estate, Margaret River, Australia – spicy, powerful and fruity – € 10.35
ROSE: Cabernet Sauvignon, Montemar, Catalonia, Spain – full, ripe and characterful Spanish temperament – € 5.30
WHITE: Verdejo BARRICA, Medina, Rueda, Spain – toast, deep with a powerful palate – € 9.35

In the garden or on the street: what does it matter. Next week we are going on a picnic……outdoor life is wonderful.
