SOUGHT & FOUND: the ideal asparagus friend 2012

I got a tingle as I drove through beautiful Limburg three weeks ago. The asparagus beds were being covered with plastic to give the white gold a helping hand.

I didn't hesitate for a second and called my friend Huub Meinardi to discuss the state of affairs in the Groningen countryside. Meinardi: “The soil is still a bit too cold, but the expectation is that by the end of March, just before Easter, production will be well underway!” Fortunately, I have already finalized the selection and am supported by the Brabant Asparagus Wine Competition: our Gros Manseng from Gilles Baumann (France, Cassogne) is chosen as the asparagus wine of 2012.

Of course, there are more beautiful combinations (Muscat, Viognier, and naturally the mild Pinot Blanc), but this wine made from the Gros Manseng grape stands head and shoulders above the rest.

We have plenty of this wine in stock, so bring on the asparagus, friend!
