They are both gone… Uncle Loeks’ Horse and Venus, Pascal Agrapart’s Horse.
The latter is less well known to the Groningen public, but I would like to introduce him. In January 2010, I visited Pascal Agrapart in the French Champagne commune of Avize with my wife.
An organic champagne producer with a production of only 80,000 bottles per year (Moët & Chandon approx. 30,000,000 bottles per year) certainly knows how to bring terroir and a unique style to the market. We visit the vineyards and, very remarkably, two long rows that Pascal cultivates exclusively with his horse, Vénus, in order to preserve the open structure of the soil. The result: a Vénus 2005 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru (= 100% Chardonnay grapes). Uncle Loeks' Horse sustained an injury to his nostrils, fell ill, and eventually died a complete death. Fortunately, Pascal Agrapart has a nose for good champagne, which is fortunately also served in the Groningen hospitality industry. Cheers!
