Vfor the eleventh edition of the Blues Tour Groningen Bands from far and wide have spontaneously signed up. The organization can therefore rightfully say that the event, which traditionally takes place on the last Saturday of February in the city center of Groningen, maintains a high level of quality. Fifteen cafes within walking distance offer a stage for blues music.
Organizer Joris van Berkel says he is surprised year after year by the interest shown by the bands and music lovers who come to Groningen. "In that, we find confirmation that the Blues Tour has proven itself. Many blues music enthusiasts know that they should come to Groningen on the last Saturday of February to enjoy the various styles of blues."
A number of bands have been playing at the same location since the first edition.
"The match between the music and the ambiance of the café and the crowd is right."
Van Berkel leaves the choice of music to Willem Koster and Maarten Linskens. For years, Koster provided a platform for blues music in his café in the city center.
It remains special that the Blues Tour Groningen on Saturday, February 23, is free for visitors. The fifteen bands all start playing at 9:30 PM and continue until 1:00 AM. Those who still haven't had enough by then can head over to All Round Groningen, on the south side of the A-Kerkhof, right next to the café House of the Stock Exchange.
In the participating cafés, there is a magazine containing information about the bands and the venues where the music can be heard. A map of the city center makes it easy for visitors to make a choice. Sponsors mentioned in the brochure and on the website make it possible for this eleventh edition to be free of charge as well.
