History
As early as 1726, the establishment served as an inn ‘for the traveling man’. The lodging was situated on an important route to Germany. From 1763, the inn came into the hands of a collector and was given the name ‘Het Posthuis’. The stagecoach regularly stopped here to change horses.

In the middle of the 18e In the 18th century, the building also served as a ‘Courthouse’, after which court sessions were regularly held here. If a death sentence was handed down, the gallows stood a few meters away, close to the prison cells in the barn. The innkeeper acquired an additional role: that of jailer.

The famous Dutch writer Jacob van Lennep arrived in Hoogezand in 1823 during his walking tour with his companion Dirk van Hogendorp and stayed at the inn, after which he wrote a piece about it in his diary wrote.

The hotel became the cultural center for the wider region through the construction of the Faber Theatre Hall; many famous Dutch people have graced its stage and left their drops of sweat behind. Moreover, bowling was already being played in this hall from 1904, and in 1912 it took the form of a cinema. Today, it is a beautiful hall with a capacity of 250 theatre seats.
