Tears due to Corona, but also tears of joy and pride. On April 30, Hotel Faber Hoogezand exactly 120 years, currently with Frank Faber at the helm as the 4th generation hotelier.
On April 30, 1901, Marten Cornelis Faber took over "Logement Het Posthuis" in Hoogezand, and what followed was a rich and beautiful history. For instance, 'justice' was administered there, the condemned were confined in the 'Rozendal' (prison cells in the barn), the innkeeper also served as the jailer, and the gallows stood just a few paces away in the old Hoogezand cemetery. The municipal council also held meetings at the inn.

In 1910, Faber built a theatre and concert hall which was visited by many famous artists: Snip & Snap, the Tik Tak shows of the Groningen coffee and tea factory, Imca Marina’s very first performance at Faber, Seth Gaaikema, Andre van Duijn, and a long list of other well-known figures.
In 1912, a cinema was established, followed by the Easter fair and summer festivals on the outdoor grounds, car shows, dance classes (many marriages originated here), club life, and bowling alleys.

“Corona also changed a lot, but Hotel Faber is still the bustling establishment of yesteryear,” says Frank Faber. We certainly won't let this anniversary pass unnoticed! For example, from April 26th to May 21st, we have put together special offers for our takeaway meals and a special anniversary dish, and we are also raffling off 3 dinner vouchers! So keep a close eye on our social media. Here's to the next 120 years!
