The well-known comedian Youp van ’t Hek still expresses his love for the Groningen hospitality industry. In late 2013, he wrote in the foreword of the Groningen Pub Guide“Students, cafes, me young and tireless. Groningen was made for me. God, how often I was there, and usually bottomlessly happy!”

He recently learned that Café ’t Vaatje since last November has taken place in the basement of the building on the Grote Markt, where De Blauwe Engel was previously located. In his column He wrote in the VARA guide that he would like to take on the reopening of De Blauwe Engel.
No student pub is waiting for this sixty-something anymore, but times change.
Although the establishment now bears the name ’t Vaatje, the traces of De Blauwe Engel have not yet been entirely erased. The blue neon letters from the facade are still in the possession of the current business.
Jeroen de Vries, owner of Café ’t Vaatje, is happy to invite Van ‘t Hek to visit his café. “In his column, he wrote that no student pub is waiting for this sixty-something anymore, but times change. We are happy to invite Youp van ’t Hek to our café and show him that ’t Vaatje is also a great place to go out.”
It is then the comedian's honor to unveil the neon lighting of De Blauwe Engel and, as he puts it, to sing the song ‘Niemand weet hoe laat het is’ one last time together with the café clientele.
