Households spend 6,000 euros per year on leisure. The largest portion is spent on holidays and in the hospitality industry. According to the National Budget Survey (CBS), single people under 65 spend relatively the most in the hospitality industry compared to their total leisure spending. However, the ‘Big Spenders’ in the Dutch hospitality industry are couples with at least one adult child. They spend an average of 2,080 euros per year.
Compare that to the budget of single people under 65: approximately 870 euros per year. The average spending of all households on hospitality is 1,322 euros. That is approximately 4% of the total household budget. Good for ninth place on the ranking of what an average household spends money on.

About het Nationaal Budgetonderzoek
CBS conducts the National Budget Survey based on a sample of private households; as a result, the figures mentioned are not 100% reliable, but they provide a reasonable indication of spending per household.
