Bax Beer wins Gold and Silver at most important beer competition

The Groningen brewery Bax Bier wins a gold and a silver medal at the Brussels Beer Challenge, the most important European award for beers, for the beers Koud Vuur (gold) and Kon Minder (silver).

During the Brussels Beer Challenge, beers from breweries around the world are judged by a panel of 75 international beer experts. This year, 1,100 beers were judged on taste, aroma, mouthfeel, and appearance. The young Groningen brewers from Bax Bier participated with their beers Koud Vuur, a smoked porter, and Kon Minder, a citrus blonde beer. Both beers won awards.

Koud Vuur took home the gold medal in the ‘Smoked’ category. In the ‘Bitter Blond’ category, Kon Minder had to settle for second place, just behind the English team Sharp’s Brewery. Other Dutch brewers also performed well this year. In total, 19 medals were won by Dutch brewers; Jopen, Gulpener, Alfa, t’ IJ, and Texels were among those who also took home awards.

This award is a reward for the ambitious brewers behind Bax Bier, Jeroen Bax and Sepp Jansen. The guys are working hard on a new brewery in Groningen. They recently moved into the new building where the brewery will be located, and the new brewery is expected to be operational in the spring of 2016.
