The owner of café De BoerMarc Veeninga announces he is coming up with something new. “Simple meals for a friendly price,” reports the Dagblad van het Noorden.
The former Café Bellevue has regained its old name since the takeover and renovation by landlord Veeninga. A small kitchen is now being added. The kitchen at Café De Boer is run by Joany de Vries, who cooked in eateries such as Lambik and The Neighbor in Groningen and The Lantern in Noordlaren. The chef enjoys preparing meals with a Surinamese twist. The daily special, for less than ten euros, consists of a meat, fish, or vegetarian dish every day.
Through the daily special, Veeninga hopes to attract more guests to his café on Nieuwe Ebbingestraat. “I am not dissatisfied, but it can always be better.” The extensive renovation has cost the landlord a few guests. “Fortunately, many nice young people and couples from the neighborhood have come back for it.” Despite the daily special, the establishment will retain the character of a café.
The daily special at Café De Boer costs €9.50. “But if the guest wants to eat between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM? Then he pays two euros less.”
