Cafe de Kachel throws in the towel

Following a smoking inspection in the pub by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) last Friday, there is being the Stove no longer smoked. Any potential lawsuit against the state will also not proceed.

Last October, the Supreme Court ruled that smoking in the hospitality industry had to be banned. A few days later, State Secretary Van Rijn decided that the smoking ban would be enforced immediately. At the time, Gerhard Sannes of Café de Kachel still wanted to start a new lawsuit against the State. To finance this case, he called upon other cafés to donate money to pay for a lawyer. It now appears that insufficient funds were raised.

“I am pulling the plug, but in the background we will continue to look for opportunities to still take action,” said Gerhard Sannes of café de Kachel.
