Café Hammingh bankrupt

Café Hammingh has been declared bankrupt, after operator Sander Vrieling filed for it earlier this week. He attributes this to a poorly chosen management structure.

Sander & Olesia on Facebook:

We started Hammingh in Garnwerd out of love for this café-restaurant in this very special location. We have invested heavily in upgrading Hammingh and thus ultimately created a beautiful hospitality establishment. As investors, we have always intended to achieve this. We therefore opted for a management structure that kept us at a distance. Unfortunately, we must conclude that this arrangement did not work out well.

To secure the social safety net for the staff in a timely manner and to keep the debt burden within reasonable limits, we have filed for bankruptcy. We therefore hope that this will expedite a swift takeover, so that Hammingh remains closed for as short a time as possible. Since the bankruptcy is now a fact, it is now up to the bankruptcy trustee.

We want to thank everyone who worked hard for Hammingh, and the many expressions of support mean a lot to us. It is fantastic that the staff tidied up and cleaned the entire place on their own initiative last Sunday. With what we have achieved with the staff, Hammingh is once again a beautiful café-restaurant in the most Groningen spot in our province. Hammingh therefore has every chance for a successful future; only without us.
