Cafe ’t Vaatje closes

In recent months, several articles have appeared in the media stating that the municipality of Groningen at the site of The Small Barrel wants to construct a new hospitality property. As a result, the current building, the premises where ’t Vaatje was located for the past 20 years, is going to be demolished.

So, on May 1st, entirely against our will, we must close the doors of our café for good. An institution in the city of Groningen will disappear. Initially, we did our utmost over the past period to be able to remain at this location.
When that turned out not to be an option, we had several possibilities for a move from The Small Barrel investigated. But unfortunately, that too has come to nothing so far.
Naturally, we continue to look for opportunities.

In any case, we would like to thank all guests who have experienced many enjoyable evenings and nights at ’t Vaatje over the past few years, but certainly also all former employees, for the good times and the wonderful parties.

This month, of course, you can still enjoy our pitcher of Raket (and naturally the other pitchers!), the beers, shots, and the good vibes in the coziest student pub in Groningen.

We do, however, continue to welcome everyone to our restaurant: Dinercafé Diep on the Schuitendiep or on our boat: the Diepsloep.

Thank you for a wonderful time!

All employees of ’t Vaatje and Jeroen de Vries
