The first edition of Groninginnedag takes place on Saturday, June 24. It is the national day of return for everyone who has, or has had, a connection with Groningen. In Brabant you have Carnival, in North Holland the fair, but when do you meet up with your friends to reminisce and enjoy the city's beautiful things together again? You can do so during Groninginnedag.
Groninginnedag challenges everyone to invite their network to make the first Groninginnedag a historic day. De 3 Gezusters, Café Soestdijk, and De Toeter are currently mobilizing all their (former) staff to return on June 24. They are an example for the many reunions that will take place on Groninginnedag.
The Der Aa Church is the center for the first gin festival in Groningen. On Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24, Hooghoudt hosts a program of exceptional gins and accompanying pairings. From the ultimate 'kopstoot' (shot of gin) to a perfect food pairing. The program is hosted by top bartenders, including Lennart Deddens (Bartender of the Year 2015).
Friday evening will also feature the Chef’s Table, a concept that has successfully taken place six times at the distillery. During this finale, leading chefs are challenged to create a menu using local Groningen products in combination with products from Hooghoudt.
Bax Bier is the organizer of the first international beer festival, taking place on the historic Ossenmarkt. The square will be transformed into a mecca for lovers of special and unique beers from all over the world. They aim to bring as many renowned international brewers to Groningen as possible, complemented by undiscovered gems and the finest specialty beers from Dutch brewers. In addition, you will find the best food trucks and live music. The first names will be announced soon.
In addition to the program mentioned above, hard work is currently being done on a program packed with food, drinks, DJs, culture, and bands.
All in all, the reason to be in Groningen on June 24th.
