There is no longer any debate about whether or not to offer Wi-Fi. However, a new discussion is the need for charging points, for which nice new systems have already been developed, such as cabinets where you can safely charge your mobile phone. We have also seen developments where you can already charge your mobile phone by placing it on a table; for now, this seems like a fairly expensive solution, and it can be done much simpler….
A good example is the iPod docking station (speaker system) with the wide connector that you encounter in many hotels, usually in the more upscale segment. Very hospitable, but Apple has already released new versions several times, and my iPhone 6 hasn't fit this system for a long time. Furthermore, there aren't that many iPods in circulation anymore. In cases like this, technology catches up with the investment very quickly.
The same applies to the charging points. That’s nice, but then you’ll have to do without your mobile phone for a while… And that isn’t very hospitable to your guests, especially your younger guests, who would like to stay in touch online as much as possible.
The future or now? Simply provide charging points or USB hubs at the tables. Especially in grand cafés and in bars and eateries that target a young crowd (certainly up to around 40). So, architects and hospitality entrepreneurs who are currently designing: ensure there are enough power outlets at the tables or come up with nice plug-in systems for this purpose.
