Third edition of Walk-in Concerts on Sunday, November 1

On Sunday, November 1st (shopping Sunday), the Groningen city centre will once again be entirely dedicated to Walk-In Concerts! The event has been received with such enthusiasm by participants and the public that a 3rd edition was inevitable. The Groningen City Club and the Fonds Ondernemend have once again commissioned the organization of the free festival. This year features no fewer than 25 participating shops, 27 different acts, and 75 performances.

On November 1st, visitors will once again literally walk right into the concerts. Between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM, the public can listen to live music ranging from jazz and a nod to blues to pop. From bands to singer-songwriters. Spread throughout the entire city center and 12 shopping streets. Participants range from Lighthouse Groningen and Palazzo Man (Stoeldraaierstraat) and Woonn and Stips.nl (Poelestraat) to Folk, Beans & Grapes (Folkingestraat) and Plato, Coffee Company, and Brixx (Oude Ebbingestraat). With shops in Oosterstraat, Waagstraat, Grote Markt, Zwanestraat, Grote Kromme Elleboog, Vismarkt, A-kerkhof, and Brugstraat, the lineup is complete! In addition to the musical program, all participating shops have set up a special promotion (or giveaway) for the Walk-in Concerts in the form of a discount, a voucher, or another special offer. Curious about the promotions? Like the Walk-In Concerts Facebook page and don't miss out!

Walk-In Concerts Program
The Walk-In Concerts program is complete. A total of 27 different acts and 75 performances. All on Sunday, November 1st, between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. For each store, the organization considered the wishes, image, target audience, and product range, and looked for a band or act that fit well. Featuring talented musicians from the Prins Claus Conservatorium – part of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and Noorderpoort – Arts & Multimedia, as well as established names, bands, and a broadening of music genres, new this year. Coffee Company and Plato are going all out with three different acts in the stores: Martyn Ell, The Press & The President, and The Legs. The 3 groups will perform in both establishments. Additionally, with Lucie Dekker, Robin IJzerman, Dominggus Pfaff & Linda Lahrdasse, street musician Moti, Drift, Shirtless, Rodejo, Marisa Cortes Moreno, and Kira Dekker, among others, there is a very varied program! And all of that in special places: next to the cash register, by the changing rooms, in the display window, at the coffee corner, or in the waiting area.

Orchestre Bicyclette
The program is completed with the Orchestre Bicyclette. A cycling orchestra, a production by the Utrecht community orchestra Fanfare van het Vuur. The production was staged for the Grand Depart, the start of the Tour de France in July. The Fanfare performed with a 100-piece orchestra. With this, Orchestre Bicyclette sets an entirely new trend in music-making while cycling, complete with violins, accordions, cellos, wind instruments, and percussion. Now, the Fanfare is coming with 10 of its musicians to play music while cycling past the participating shops in the Walk-in Concerts. This tour alternates with a concert at 3:30 PM on the Grote Markt or the Waagplein (weather permitting), with audience participation via bicycle bells! Furthermore, the orchestra will perform its version of the song “De Nacht” by Ede Staal there, sung in the Groningen dialect. Quite an experience. From the Tour de France in Utrecht, the fanfare band is now coming to Groningen; they consider it an honor to play in Groningen, famous as a cycling and shopping city.

The organizers of Walk-In Concerts are convinced that the atmosphere in the shops and beyond on November 1st will be very lively with Orchetre Bicyclette.
