Keep your head up! Due to the coronavirus, hospitality businesses can no longer open, but many are trying to make the best of it. Because if things don't go the way they should, then they just have to go the way they go.
The same applies to Bar Smoke on the Grote Markt. Normally, Smoke is a restaurant, bar, and event venue featuring live music and stand-up comedy, among other things. During the lockdown, they switched to other revenue models. In addition to takeaway and delivery of food and craft beers, they are organizing the Great Online Grunn Quiz on November 27, with questions about everything imaginable regarding the city and surrounding area. Think of places, locations, music, local heroes, local products, sayings, history, etc.

“We have actually wanted to hold a quiz about Groningen in all its facets for a very long time. This lockdown gives us the opportunity to make that happen again. In the quiz, we will collaborate extensively with local entrepreneurs and put them in the spotlight in the process. It is wonderful how many people are already willing to participate. Famous Grunnegers, celebrities with strong ties to Grunn, local entrepreneurs, and faces that are an integral part of the street scene will help formulate questions and will appear in the quiz in a corona-proof manner. It will be a quiz of Groningen down-to-earthness, in which all layers of the population participate. Exactly what Groningen is like and what fits Smoke perfectly. From Jonnie from the Straatkrant to former FC Groningen head coach Erwin van de Looi. Actually, down-to-earth Arjen Robben would fit right in here too, so if anyone knows how we can get in touch with him…” says a grinning Sander Bos, the quiz host.

Participants will enjoy a full evening program consisting of 8 rounds of 10 questions each, competing for the title of Grunnkenner 2020. Prize packages will consist of products and services from local entrepreneurs to show their support. Additionally, Smoke is working on a drinks and snacks package that can be delivered to your home to enjoy during the quiz.

‘De Grote Online Grunnquiz’ will be broadcast from Smoke at Grote Markt 21A in Groningen on November 27 and takes place online. The event starts at 21:00 and costs €3.00 per participant.
