Groningen is the poorest city in the Netherlands. And the Food Bank in Groningen provides the Food bank Almost 2,000 people go without food every week. As many as 1 in 5 children live in poverty in our city.
Food and foodstuffs donated by the Food Bank come from private individuals and businesses. The Food Bank is entirely dependent on them.
But the people who work there, 100 in total, all do this voluntarily as well. The driver, secretary, cleaner, manager, and board. No one gets paid.
Maarten Burger owner of Cafe Buckshot and Grand Cafe Groningen He took the fate of the Food Bank to heart. And as a hospitality entrepreneur, he knows better than anyone what hard work is. That is why, last Tuesday, he decided to put the volunteers in the spotlight. The volunteers who sometimes work 6 days a week from 7 am to 4 pm.
Therefore, he selflessly prepared a delicious three-course menu for all the volunteers. The volunteers thoroughly enjoyed the meal and were especially grateful that Mr. Burger offered this so generously.
