Last Monday, May 11, 2015, Grolsch celebrated its official anniversary at the brewery in Enschede. After months of counting down, it was time for the big pop moment. At exactly 4:15 PM – referring to the date and year in which Grolsch was born – all counters reached zero, and approximately 1,000 attendees opened the iconic swing-top bottle with the familiar Grolsch sound: ‘pop’. With this massive pop moment, the brewer toasted to 400 years of character and craftsmanship.
400 years of character and craftsmanship
Andrei Haret (Managing Director of Royal Grolsch), Wim Vermeulen (the current Master Brewer), and Patrick Lodiers (host) toast together with three figures from Grolsch's past to 400 years of craftsmanship and character. These figures from the past (Peter Kuijper, Theo de Groen, and Gerard Brummer) play a crucial role in the history of Grolsch. With their bold decisions – and the character and craftsmanship required to make them – they have made a major contribution to Grolsch's success since its founding in 1615. Grolsch's 400-year-old traditions have been shaped by the conviction that people, their passions, and their characters make the difference.
Special variant Grolsch Premium Pilsner
During the official part of the event, Grolsch will extensively celebrate 400 years of character and craftsmanship. Exclusively for the occasion, Grolsch is offering all guests a very special beer: a special variant of Grolsch Premium Pilsner, straight from the tank. This freshly brewed pilsner – which will be served exclusively during the festive gathering in honor of the 400th anniversary – is characterized by an unprecedentedly full pilsner flavor. Wim Vermeulen, Master Brewer at Grolsch: “As brewers, we often and gladly taste our beer. Nothing leaves the premises before it has been tasted and approved. The first time we taste is after fermentation, when the beer is ready to be filtered and bottled. The beer is then crisp and, due to its full pilsner flavor, particularly delicious. Today, and today only, the guests present can taste this special variant of our Grolsch Premium Pilsner. For true beer lovers, this is the ultimate beer experience!”
Grolsch Craftsmanship Fund
In addition, General Manager Andrei Haret presents the Grolsch Craftsmanship Fund. The fund aims to support craftsmanship in the Twente and Achterhoek regions, the birthplace of the brewery. With this fund, Grolsch wishes to further emphasize its regional commitment. An annual financial contribution is made to initiatives promoting social and economic growth in the region. In doing so, Grolsch attaches great importance to character and entrepreneurship on the one hand, and innovation and sustainability on the other. Initiatives can be submitted online starting Tuesday, May 12, via www.koninklijkegrolsch.nl.
