Groningen resident through to the final of the Dutch Beer Tapping Championship at Horecava 2015

Malou Reijneker of Grand Café Time Out in Groningen has qualified for the final of the Dutch Beer Tapping Championship. This year, too, it will take place on Monday, January 12 at the largest hospitality trade fair in the Netherlands; the Horecava in Amsterdam.

Semi-finals

On November 24 and 25, the semi-finals of the Stichting Tapwedstrijden.nl took place in Nijkerk. Through numerous preliminary competitions, the best 120 bartenders in the Netherlands had qualified for the district finals in Nijkerk to qualify for the national final on January 12 in Amsterdam. The judging is carried out by an expert jury consisting of former winners, hospitality heroes, and beer specialists.

Final

On Monday, January 12, 2015, starting at 12:00, the 24 best beer tappers in the Netherlands and last year's champion, Bas van der Aa, will cross swords during the Dutch Beer Tapping Championship at Horecava. In the selection rounds, two small glasses and two vases must be tapped, and in the semi-final and final, a specialty beer is added to the mix and must be poured for the jury. The climax, the final, will take place around 15:30, and at 17:00, it will be announced who the best beer tapper in the Netherlands is. Information regarding what tapping competitions are, the competition rules and protocol, and the criteria on which the jury judges the finalists can be found on the website. www.tapwedstrijden.nl

Passion and craftsmanship

The Dutch Beer Tapping Championship is organized by the Tapwedstrijden.nl Foundation to enthuse hospitality professionals and familiarize them with the correct tapping and pouring of beer. Since the founding of the Tapwedstrijden.nl Foundation in 2010, 250 tapping competitions have taken place, and five Dutch Champions have been crowned since January 12. Tapping competitions can be organized by any hospitality business or enthusiastic hospitality professionals. The Tapwedstrijden Foundation supports local tapping competitions with a support package, and the winners of local competitions advance to one of the district finals. Fortunately, more and more entrepreneurs are realizing how easy, fun, and educational it is to organize a beer tapping competition in their region. According to Vincent van der Wardt, the chairman of the foundation, the demand for hospitality and good tapping has increased. “The standard is higher every year, and we see that entrepreneurs are increasingly focused on quality and service.”

2015

Just like in previous years, the foundation will dedicate itself 100% to a wonderful national final at Horecava 2015. Vincent: “In collaboration with the four major brewers and Koninklijke Horeca Nederland, the Tapwacht and HORECAVA, and all enthusiastic entrepreneurs and tappers, many beer tapping competitions will once again take place throughout the Netherlands in 2015.”
