On Wednesday, April 19, 2017, Bierfestival Groningen presents the largest beer dinner in the Netherlands featuring regional beers and products. In fact, the organizers believe that this beer dinner is unique due to its sustainability and has never been organized in Europe or even worldwide.
In the Martinikerk in Groningen, the table is being set for over 600 Burgundian-minded beer lovers. The menu features honest regional products and matching, passion-brewed specialty beers from the North. Catering company ‘De Smaak van het Noorden’ and Progress Events will bring this grand beer dinner to life.
Beer sommeliers Melissa Cole (UK) and Fiona de Lange (NL) will be present again this year. They will once again provide the presentation and guidance for the beers, supported by beer sommeliers from Groningen.
The dinner is organized based on the philosophy of Dutch Cuisine by Albert Kooy in collaboration with a think tank. This think tank consists of hospitality businesses from the city and province of Groningen, including the Michelin-starred Herberg ‘Onder de Linden’, Holland Casino, Robust, the City garden, The Black Sheep, Louis XV and El TxokoIn addition, local brewers and culinary experts are thinking along High holds Laurens Speek and various chefs from wholesalers are participating. The objective is to increase the use of regional products in the North and to discover new beer and food pairings.
Walk-ins on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, are between 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM, and dinner takes place between 7:00 PM and 10:30 PM in the Martinikerk, one of the most beautiful locations in the North.
Since 2012, Bierfestival Groningen has organized a beer and food pairing competition every year. During the seventh edition, a beer and food pairing competition will also be held on Saturday afternoon, April 22.
