Choose a sustainable Christmas tree this Christmas: the coziness now, a better world later. Thanks to BeterBoompje and Lowlander Beer, there will be no more disposable Christmas trees in ten years. De Drie Gezusters is happy to participate in this special campaign and is therefore the pick-up location in Groningen in December. You can pick up your Christmas tree at De Drie Gezusters on Sunday, December 6, Friday, December 11, Saturday, December 12, or Sunday, December 13.
These are extraordinary times, in which De Drie Gezusters is doing its best to spoil its guests in different ways. Although the doors of the Grand Café remain closed for a little while longer, De Drie Gezusters is coming up with all kinds of alternatives to usher in the holidays together in a cozy and enjoyable way. And with success! This year, the front garden of the Grote Markt is being transformed into a true Christmas tree paradise. The waiters of De Drie Gezusters will lovingly supply the city of Groningen with sustainable Christmas trees in December.
More sustainable Christmas tree alternative
In the Netherlands, around 2,500,000 Christmas trees are thrown away every year after the holidays. After years of growing into a full-sized Christmas tree, they bring cheer to the home for only about four weeks. Subsequently, the majority of the trees are burned immediately; anything but sustainable, of course. BeterBoompje and De Drie Gezusters believe this is completely unnecessary. That is why they have decided this year to offer as many Dutch people as possible a more sustainable Christmas tree alternative. Starting November 9, residents of Groningen can buy a Christmas tree via www.beterboompje.nl that brings just as much cheer and makes the world a little bit more beautiful. A truly ‘better’ tree, in other words!

With a root ball or nicely sawn: choose your BeterBoompje
At BeterBoompje, you will find two more sustainable and therefore better options. The first is a Christmas tree with a root ball. Initiator Alex: “This essentially stays with you for a month, after which we plant it back in nature. The other option is a Christmas tree without a root ball (the cut version). This option is an interim solution to change the market. For every Christmas tree without a root ball that you buy, Lowlander plants two new, organic adoption trees in their Christmas Tree Forest.”
