The first final of the Burger Cook-Off was scheduled to take place in July at Bernoulliplein in Groningen. Due to severe weather forecasts, the organization has moved the event to September 12. For six months, the preliminary rounds of the Burger Cook-Off have been held at Omnitaria de Boom, located at the beginning of the Korreweg. Every month, chefs competed for a spot in the final to prove that they could prepare the best hamburger in Groningen and the surrounding area.
Throughout the day, the 3 finalists will compete for the title of BURGERmeester 2015 of Groningen. The finalists have created unique hamburgers especially for this day, which are unavailable anywhere else. Think of unique meat combinations, homemade jams, candy bacon, brioche buns, homemade barbecue sauces, etc. Visitors may taste a hamburger from each finalist and vote for their favorite. Additionally, there will be a professional jury, including the Night Mayor, to judge the hamburgers on taste, appearance, and originality.
Bernoulliplein will be transformed into a hamburger paradise, where visitors can enjoy unique burgers, drinks, and a musical program of funk, soul, salsa, and disco DJs, all on a beautiful lawn. Everyone is welcome to have drinks from 3:00 PM, and the grills will be fired up around 4:00 PM. The organizers advise coming on an empty stomach and setting aside the entire evening. The calories can also be danced off throughout the evening until midnight.
After the festival, all recipes from all participants over the past 6 months will be compiled into a The Burger Cook-Off cookbook.
