Hooghoudt now grows its own juniper herbs

For several months, the Hooghoudt family distillery has been cultivating its own herbs in a personal herb garden. The herbs grow at Borg Ewsum in Middelstum, the estate managed by Het Groninger Landschap. In this way, Hooghoudt's gins will be enriched with locally grown products.

With the herb garden, Hooghoudt emphasizes the artisanal process and the role of 100% natural products in its gins. The Groningen character of Hooghoudt forms a beautiful regional connection with the herb garden on the estate of Het Groninger Landschap.

Cooperation
Arno Donkersloot, director of the distillery, explains: “When I joined Hooghoudt five years ago, people were working hard but communicating too little. Even though a beautiful historical and artisanal product is being made in the distillery. We now want to share that craftsmanship and the power of natural products with everyone again. Preferably in a way that aligns with our regional ties.” Borg Ewsum is the perfect place to showcase the richness of gin.”

Also director of The Groningen LandscapeMarco Glastra is very pleased with the collaboration. “We are always looking for committed, Groningen-based companies to partner with. This project with Hooghoudt is a unique example of how Groningen organizations can strengthen each other. By linking the Ewsum estate and its historic gardens to Hooghoudt’s gin, a unique Groningen product is created. A product for which the herbs are harvested at a historic manor.”
