Last weekend, the second Groningen Beer Festival took place in the Martinikerk in Groningen. With a wide selection of more than 120 different beers, a variety of masterclasses, a brewing competition, and plenty of snacks, it is one of the most complete beer events in the Netherlands.
Horecagroningen.nl took the for the second time Meeting square in the church choir at her expense. With eight partners, a pleasant meeting place at the festival.
It Javanese Eatery guaranteed an Oriental bite with an Affligem Christmas for a few coins and at Imono we tasted the Swinkels beer, which, with an average alcohol percentage, was quite palatable. Also the aromas from the griddle at Broncos were very pleasant and the record also contributed to the pleasant temperature on the Meeting Square.
The Beer & Food competition was won by the Javanese Eatery‘The winning combination is a powerful and full-bodied abbey beer that pairs fabulously with a warm, spicy Javanese meal with herbs, onions, and coconut,’ according to the jury.
While there could have been more stands in the middle of the church, the opposite was true at Horeca Groningen. Thanks to the cozy character of the illuminated bars and the combination of food and drinks, this part of the festival was quickly packed.
Mr. Mofongo introduced the counterpart to their famous toasted sandwiches, a hot dog derivative that will also soon be found on the menu. Served with a Hopus, bitter yet sweet, this was a pleasant combination.
It Horeca Groningen Meeting Square and the Groningen Beer Festival have proven to be a good combination, and we eagerly look forward to the next edition!
The Groningen Beer Festival will be held next year on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13.
