Hospitality Fair Northern Netherlands responds to new trends

WOuter Verkerk is groundbreaking with his publications on the hospitality industry, in which the employees in this sector take center stage. Verkerk will present his latest book at the Horecabeurs Noord Nederland on Monday, October 1, in the Martinikerk in Groningen. Help! I have a part-time job in the hospitality industry! Chef Tjitze van der Dam receives the first copy of the book. The culinary talent Van der Dam has received numerous awards for his groundbreaking and sustainable ideas. He is also a jury member at Klaar Af Kook, the successful cooking competition during the fair.

The Horecabeurs Noord Nederland will hold its seventh edition on the first Monday of October. Fair organizer Joris van Berkel counts 60 exhibitors this year and is delighted with the arrival of Verkerk.

With his publications, he aims to introduce a new vision for the modern hospitality industry. It aligns with the trade fair's philosophy not only to allow companies to promote their products, but rather to improve the quality of the industry in the broadest sense of the word.

Book presentation

Verkerk is not only presenting his latest book but is also giving a masterclass in hospitality. “The current hospitality landscape is dominated by staff shortages. That is a shame, because right now is also harvest time. Guests seem to have an insatiable hunger for hospitality; nothing is more frustrating than not being able to respond to that simply because you do not have the right people or methods,” says Verkerk.

Beer

A second interesting guest at the fair is Ivo Thijssen. He is a Cicerone and beer sommelier and has been giving tastings and training sessions since 2012 to get hospitality staff and private individuals enthusiastic about beer. Training and advice in beer handling, sales, and presentation have been his main focus in recent years. Since early 2018, Ivo has been one of the three certified Cicerones in the Netherlands.

Barista

Suzanne Diepstra, Best Barista at the trade fair two years ago, will give a masterclass on a new trend in the rapidly growing interest in coffee in the hospitality industry: mixing coffee with drinks. The various brewing methods and types of coffee beans offer an enormous variety of flavors, aromas, body, and mouthfeel, making them an excellent ingredient for cocktails. She will introduce trade fair visitors to this new discipline in the coffee world: Coffee in Good Spirits!

There are still a few spots available for the masterclasses by Ivo Thijssen and Wouter Verkerk.
