Who will represent the interests of night-time partygoers from 2016 to 2018? Who will be the new face and point of contact for the city that never sleeps?
Over the coming months, Groningen will be the scene of the heated election battle between the potential Night Mayors of Groningen for the third time. Night Mayor Chris Garrit fulfilled the role in a fantastic and idiosyncratic manner over the past 4 years (!), but has indicated that he will not stand for re-election in the upcoming election. So, it is time for a new election!
The battle for the 2016-2018 title will be decided on Friday, February 19, 2016, at Huize Maas. It promises to be another exciting evening where the audience present makes its voice heard and, together with the expert jury, determines who will become the new ambassador of the night.
Night Mayor candidates can nominate themselves until February 1, 2016, by registering on the website. www.nachtburgemeestergroningen.nlBased on online voting, 5 candidates will be selected to participate in the elections. On election night, the candidates will have the opportunity to present themselves to the attendees and the jury.
The election evening will last from 9:00 PM to midnight, giving the audience present the chance to vote for their favorite. Together with a professional jury and the preference votes from the online preliminary rounds, they will decide who will become Groningen's new ambassador of the night. At the stroke of midnight, the winner will be ceremonially honored and inaugurated with the presentation of the chain of office, specially designed by jeweler Willem Tredget. The chain consists of well-known Groningen city landmarks, the moon, and stars.
