Marco Agema of cafeteria Friet van Piet has been elected Most Outstanding Hospitality Entrepreneur of the Groningen region for 2016/2017. Agema himself had not entered the election for most outstanding hospitality entrepreneur of the Groningen region and says that the title comes as a pleasant surprise. With this, Marco takes over the baton from Patrick Beijk of Mr. Mofongo, who held the title for two years.
Striking
When Agema heard the news, he did a quick Google search. “I wanted to know exactly what the title ‘markant’ meant. It turns out to be ‘innovative,’ and I can identify with that. I am a headstrong type, of course, but one who wants to help the industry move forward. With this title in hand, I am going to represent the cafeterias well and show that we are still around.”

Sustainability
According to the KHN Groningen regional board, Marco Agema deserves the title primarily due to his innovative approach to the traditional cafeteria concept. He tirelessly incorporates his passion for the theme of sustainability into his products and approach to guests. Moreover, the relatively young entrepreneur dedicates himself with unflagging energy to helping fellow entrepreneurs who also wish to operate sustainably. It is no coincidence that his company also won the title of Most Sustainable Cafeteria in the Netherlands in 2014. In short: a young, sustainable, future-oriented, and inspiring entrepreneur with a deservedly widely known cafeteria. Regional Chairman Jan Bas van Aalderen: “We considered that an important detail as well. As professionals, we can have our own opinions on the matter – and we do – but the guest is the one who matters. And apparently, they also praise the sustainable quality of Friet van Piet.”

Election
Royal Dutch Catering Association (KHN) organizes the election of the Most Outstanding Hospitality Entrepreneur every two years. We award this prize to innovative hospitality entrepreneurs who inspire other entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs who know what is going on, respond to new consumer trends, and are successful. In this way, KHN stimulates innovation among hospitality entrepreneurs. The Most Outstanding election begins with regional elections in fourteen regions. From the fourteen winners, the Most Outstanding Hospitality Entrepreneur of the Netherlands will be chosen in early January 2017, during Horecava.
