Cafés wishing to register for the Café Top 100 2018 have one week left to do so. Participants can register via the Café Top 100 website up to and including Sunday, May 13. For the first time this year, the expert jury will visit all registered cafés.

Starting this year, the rounds have been reversed so that the professional jury's vote is more decisive.

The expert jury consists of approximately 30 individuals who have earned their stripes in the hospitality industry over the past few years. From beer connoisseurs and hospitality consultants to industry journalists and (former) entrepreneurs. In the first round, they will set out to visit and evaluate all establishments that have registered. Participants will receive a comprehensive report on this visit after the Café Top 100 has been announced.
The expert jury assesses a café based on attractiveness, hygiene, beer handling, staff, working methods, appearance, and professionalism, among other criteria. Every visit takes place anonymously. Furthermore, to properly evaluate a café, food and drinks (beer) are always ordered, and the minimum duration is 45 minutes.
The best 125 cafés advance to round 2, where the mystery guests head out. These are trained visitors who assess on the same criteria as the professional jury, but through the eyes of the guest. A visit by a mystery guest counts for 20 percent of the final score, while that of the professional jury counts for 80 percent.
Ultimately, another 25 cafes are eliminated, resulting in a top 100. The top 5 from that list are visited for a third time, but this time by the main jury. They arrive with prior notice and spend an hour visiting each establishment. The entrepreneur then has the opportunity to tell their story, and a look is also taken both in front of and behind the scenes.
Based on these visits, the top of the list is put in the correct order once again, resulting in a Café Top 100. This will be announced on Monday, November 12. during a festive eventAll cafes on the list are invited to that.
