Art from the trunk on the Grote Markt

On Sunday, June 19, 2016, the Grote Markt in Groningen will be transformed into a square where art, culture, music, and good food take center stage. During ‘Art from the Trunk’, dozens of artists will showcase their talent from the trunk of a car.

On Sunday afternoon, no fewer than 65 regional artists are expected to display their personal works from their cars. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the art up close and perhaps even take it home at a reasonable price. The art on display will fall within various price ranges, from under €50 to over €1,000; something for every taste and budget.

Food trucks and singer-songwriters
Between browsing the creative cars, visitors can grab a bite and a drink at one of the food trucks. A terrace will be set up for visitors enjoying food and drinks, where music lovers are also welcome. Several talented singer-songwriters from Groningen will perform, providing the event with atmospheric musical highlights.

Aspiring Event Managers
The idea for the event is an initiative by artist Stephen Beale. Maayke Glastra, Mireille Smits, and Cornel van den Berg, three students from the Event Management minor offered by Hanze University of Applied Sciences, approached the Municipality of Groningen and left inspired by this idea. The aspiring event managers came up with the food trucks and singer-songwriters themselves, ensuring that ‘Kunst uit de kofferbak’ promises to be a complete cultural experience.

The Grote Markt will be entirely dedicated to ‘Art from the Trunk’ from 12:00 to 17:00. For more information and updates regarding the artistic event, a Facebook page and website built.
