Nicest Bartender nominated for OLON cross-media award

@STUGTV #LOA2013 @horecagroningen

Who will be the nicest bartender from Groningen? With that question, we struck STUB and HorecaGroningen joined forces and launched a competition to stimulate the hospitality industry.

Initially, the election was entirely up to the public. Via social media, TV, and radio, we called upon the city's residents to nominate their favorite bartender. This resulted in 75 participants.

The preliminary round took place online. The top 10 with the most Facebook likes advanced to the semi-finals. Approximately 4,500 votes were cast.

To give these finalists exposure, one was featured every week on both STUG Radio and TV. We also launched a website with information and videos. People could continue voting via that site and via Facebook. We plastered the city with posters, and regional newspapers picked up on the competition. We also wrote about it on our page in the Hanze University of Applied Sciences magazine.

During the final, the participants performed tasks that were judged by a jury. The public also had a vote again, both on paper and digitally. The Night Mayor counted all the points and votes, while the public followed along via a live Twitter feed.

Not unimportant: the entire competition was organized free of charge. With only volunteers and sponsors, we set up a successful competition that took place on radio, TV, print, the web, and during an event. You can get a lot done in exchange for a cool product, right?

On Friday, May 24, the broadcasters will have 15 minutes to present themselves to the jury. The manner in which they do this is entirely up to them. The goal is for the jury to get an impression of what the broadcaster does and what it stands for.
After the presentation by the broadcaster, the jury has the opportunity to question the representatives of the broadcaster.

The Local Broadcaster Awards and the announcement of the Local Broadcaster of the Year are on Friday, June 7, 2013.
