A local band gets the chance to perform during the KEI weekThe winning band of the KEI on Stage Band Contest takes home this prize and performs for 8,000 people on the Grote Markt during the Night of the Songs. This has been one of the most popular events of the KEI Week for years. The Band Contest takes place on Thursday evening, April 28, at 8:00 PM in VERA.
During the Band Contest, five bands from Groningen and Friesland will present themselves: The Lay, Anti-D’s, The Movement, Vera’s Charm, and Haas. The winner will be chosen by a professional jury. Chairperson Nienke van Sligter of the Executive Board of the KEI Foundation: “We believe it is important to increase the engagement between Groningen residents and students and to give local talent a chance to present themselves. That is why we offer local artists the opportunity to perform for 8,000 incoming students. Groningen residents are also explicitly and warmly welcome during the Band Contest, Night of the Songs, and the other events of the KEI week.” The Night of the Songs has been a great success for over ten years and is the largest sing-along event in Europe.
Singer-songwriters from the region also stand a chance to perform during KEI Week. The winner of the KEI on Stage Singer-Songwriter competition gets to perform at the Open Air Festival in the Stadspark. Singer-songwriters can register up to and including April 30 via onstage@keiweek.nl.
The KEI on Stage Band Contest takes place on April 28 at 8:00 PM in VERA (Oosterstraat 44) and the Singer-Songwriter contest at May 19 at 8:00 PM in Lola (Pelsterdwarsstraat 11). Admission to both evenings is free.
