Wholesaler Makro is going to reorganize and chart a new course. The investment will require €50 million over the next three years, but will also cost 600 jobs. Work is underway on a new formula. “Building and strengthening the Makro brand,” according to CEO Kef van Helbergen, reports Misset Horeca.
Makro has chosen to place the stores at the center from now on. The food strategy will play a significant role in the stores, meeting places for independent entrepreneurs will be created, and online ordering will be phased out, reports. @FoodClicks.
To make room for the new concept, the decision was made to halve the product range. However, the fresh ‘food department’ will receive more attention. The space gained will be used for inspiration, meeting areas, and workspaces, and will make room for permanent shop-in-shops or (temporary) pop-up stores. By presenting all food and food-related products together in a logical manner, the wholesaler hopes to spark ideas and inspire entrepreneurs.
Van Helbergen: “We give our customers multiple reasons to visit our branches and do their shopping there. Our new store concept offers an improved shopping experience. This will lead to more visits to our stores. Moreover, Makro wants to become an inspiring place where entrepreneurs enjoy coming to work or meet each other.”
In doing so, Makro aims to respond to the changing needs of independent entrepreneurs and the new way of working. Therefore, workspaces and meeting rooms are being offered to entrepreneurs, including support services. This gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to manage their time efficiently. In addition, various networking events will be organized in the stores, and programs will be set up featuring speakers on current events and issues that entrepreneurs are facing or encountering.
