Dutch Beer Tasting Festival kicks off Dutch Beer Week 2017

The Dutch Beer Tasting Festival, the 6th edition of the Week of Dutch Beer, kicked off on Thursday, May 11, in the Grote Kerk in The Hague. Mayor Pauline Krikke tapped the first keg in the presence of Henri Reuchlin (Chairman of the Week of Dutch Beer Foundation) and Mr. Ger Koopmans (CDA, Member of the Provincial Executive of Limburg), who gave a lecture earlier that day.

During the opening, the Mitra Award for the ‘Best Beer of the Netherlands 2017’ was also presented, as part of the Dutch Beer Challenge. The beer Bloedbroeder from The Hague brewery Kompaan took home the title and can call itself the best beer of the Netherlands this year. The Week of Dutch Beer runs until May 21.

Around 100 beer-related activities are being organized throughout the Netherlands to allow consumers to experience the versatility of Dutch beer. The Dutch Brewery Days from May 19 to 21 conclude ‘The Week’. Over 100 breweries across the country will open their doors to the public during this time. Beer and food

The 6th edition of the Week of Dutch Beer was traditionally opened at the Dutch Beer Tasting Festival in The Hague. Henri Reuchlin, Chairman of the Week of Dutch Beer Foundation, emphasizes the many facets of Dutch beer: “This year, the Dutch Beer Tasting Festival welcomes over 40 Dutch brewers who have brought 250 types of beer! The beer sector in the Netherlands is more vibrant than ever; more and more brewers are joining every year. This variety of beers means that we see beer paired with food more and more often. Beer is really not just for the pub. All those different beers actually combine very well with all kinds of dishes. We hope people discover that during this edition of the Week of Dutch Beer!”
