New in the city of Groningen: the Culinary Vocational School!

The Culinary Vocational School launched in Groningen at the end of 2013, adding a wonderful culinary training program to the city. In just under 10 weeks, students are prepared for the artisanal side of the culinary profession. The first group has since obtained their Level 1 diploma and will soon take their Level 2 exam. They have also earned their Emergency Response (BHV) certificate and are eager to start working in Groningen restaurant kitchens. Several students have already found jobs.

Artisan Standard The new Culinary Vocational School is a small-scale program with its own standards and certification. Each year, four groups of 15 students are trained to become worldly and creative professional chefs. Artisan practice is central to this. Students gain experience with a wide range of preparation techniques and work with a great variety of organic and local products. In short: an ‘old-school’ education, but entirely tailored to the culinary practice in our City of Taste. Passionate Instructors The driving forces behind the Culinary Vocational School are renowned and passionate chefs and instructors.

In the cooking studio, students truly come into their own with their passion for cooking. Through hands-on experience, they learn to get ‘the most out of the pan’ for gourmands and connoisseurs, from pork belly to lobster, from Brussels sprouts to grand desserts. Social enterprise De Culinaire Vakschool Groningen is a social enterprise that aims to train people, whether or not they face barriers to employment, to become artisan chefs, with a job guarantee where possible. After graduation, the chefs can start working in the hospitality industry in various ways: as interns, in a work-study program, and as employees. De Culinaire Vakschool ensures a smooth handover in this process. Interested parties can contact Paul Rodenberg (het@kook.nl). The Culinary Vocational School is located at Shoreweed 12,9738 AK Groningen.
