Gdansk Groningen was a nationally known venue in the Dutch nightlife scene around the late 1980s. The building at the end of Poelestraat, which currently operates under the name Club &ZO, will be transformed once again into Nightclub Gdansk on May 20, 2016, during ‘The Secret Party’. Former Gdansk guests are warmly welcome back.
The soon-to-be successful Club Gdansk opened its doors in 1989 at Poelestraat 53 in Groningen, after dance clubs Lorelei, De Orient, De Index, and De Groove had left their mark on the monumental warehouse. The nightclub distinguished itself through its unique and artistic interior in collaboration with the vodka brand Absolut Vodka. Herman Brood, among others, made his personal contributions to the decor, which will also be on display during the reunion in May. There was no clear target audience; the public came in all shapes, sizes, and exuberance and was therefore warmly welcomed.
Music
The Groningen version of the Amsterdam IT and Roxy from the 90s attracted visitors from all over the country, including many musicians and Dutch celebrities. Herman Brood performed there multiple times, but the then-up-and-coming Robin S also took to the stage, as did soul sensation Jocelyn Brown. During the reunion, the music will once again be in the distinctive 90s ‘Gdansk’ style: groovy soul, funk, R&B, and club house mixed by the real Gdansk DJs of that era.
Facebook and maps
Via the Facebook page Gdansk Groningen with over 1,000 ‘friends’, interested parties are kept informed of what is coming; The Secret Party is no longer so ‘secret’. The party will take place on Friday, May 20th, at the current Nightclub &ZO from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM. According to social media, ticket sales are going fast; Facebook friends of the nightclub were given priority in securing an entry ticket. As a result, the early bird tickets are already sold out, but regular tickets (€15) are still available via this link.
