In honor of its tenth anniversary, ImpressFest by Noorderpoort Art & Multimedia presents the international hit musical Hairspray from June 20 to July 2, 2016. The production is entirely in the hands of students, who received assistance from professionals in the field.
ImpressFest 2016
In 2016 exists Noorderpoort Art & Multimedia ten years, and that is going to be celebrated exuberantly ImpressFest, the annual showcase festival for exam candidates, is going all out with the international hit musical Hairspray. The cast of the ‘feel-good’ musical with a message is made up of Art & Multimedia students. Various professionals are also performing, such as Marieke Klooster and Karin Noeken from Vrouw Holland and Hans Kroodsma (formerly of Tryater).
Students and professionals work together
From designer to artist, stage technician to event organizer, and from musician to filmmaker or game designer: together with professionals, every discipline within the school contributes to the realization of this thirteen-day spectacle in the festival tent behind the school. With Hairspray, Noorderpoort not only prepares its students for real-world work in their future sector but also offers them a platform to showcase their talents to the world; a treat for Groningen.
Hairspray the Musical
Baltimore, 1962. Tracy Turnblad is a big girl, with bigger hair and an even bigger dream: to dance her way onto national television, and into the heart of teen idol Link Larkin. With her uninhibited enthusiasm and hip dance moves, she effortlessly secures a spot on The Corny Collins Show, much to the annoyance of the current ‘dance queen’ Amber von Tussle. The two girls engage in a bitter and musical battle for the crown of Miss Hairspray. Meanwhile, Tracy is using her newfound fame to fight for the inclusion of all skin colors within the show.

Hairspray the Musical can be seen from June 20, 2016, in the festival tent on the field behind Noorderpoort Kunst & Multimedia at Verzetsstrijderslaan 4 in Groningen. There are a total of 14 performances through July 2, 2016. Tickets can be ordered online via this website.
