On Wednesday, June 22, the musical HAIRSPRAY premiered during ImpressFest, the annual showcase festival of Noorderpoort Art & Multimedia. The musical was organized in honor of the school's tenth anniversary.
The international hit musical, organized, produced, and performed by students from Noorderpoort Art & Multimedia, premiered last Wednesday evening. From designer to artist, stage technician to event organizer, and from musician to filmmaker or game designer: together with professionals, every discipline within the school has worked and sweated for months to realize the production. It is more than worth the effort. The music is swinging, the story heartwarming, and the cast extraordinarily enthusiastic.

The musical was received with thunderous acclaim during the first evening for the general public.
“Cheerfulness prevails, propped up by an overdose of songs and budding romances in a sharp 1960s portrait unfolding in Baltimore.” The day before, it was awarded four stars by reviewer Jacques d’Ancona in the Dagblad van het Noorden. “Productionally, the result stands firm. They succeed in combining factors such as costuming, lighting, choreography, and music (a great band on two stages) in a vibrant and surprising way with audiovisual elements.”
The musical
HAIRSPRAY transports you to the 1960s, where glitter dresses, high hairstyles, and above all, lots of hairspray were an integral part of the street scene. Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with bigger hair and an even bigger dream: to dance her way onto national television, and also into the heart of teen idol Link Larkin. During a bitter and musical battle for the crown of Miss Hairspray, Tracy fights for the participation of everyone in the show, regardless of skin color.

Hairspray can be admired until July 2 in the festival tent on the lawn behind Noorderpoort Kunst & Multimedia, Verzetsstrijderslaan 2.
