Susan Huitenga, former manager of a beer café The Pintelier, is launching MOUT: a tasting room for special Dutch beers. Through crowdfunding, she is seeking enthusiastic investors willing to support her initiative with a return of 24%. She hopes to open the doors at the end of this year.
With Proeflokaal MOUT, Susan wants to introduce her guests to the best Dutch beers. “Our brewers deserve to be put in the spotlight more,” says the Groningen native: “I want their surprising and unique beers to have a tasting room where they are served and drunk with care.” She cannot reveal too much about the building itself yet. “It would be great if it works out at this location. If not, Groningen offers plenty of other opportunities.”
Proeflokaal MOUT will become the second Dutch beer café, after the Arendsnest in Amsterdam. With its rich brewing history and diverse clientele, Groningen seems like a suitable city for this concept.
On CrowdAboutNow, where Proeflokaal MOUT’s business plan can also be read, she has already raised nearly a quarter of the target amount. “You really notice that beer and hospitality enthusiasts throughout the country want to support not only me, but also our brewers.”
And of course, she isn't talking about Heineken, Grolsch, and Bavaria. With more than 250 (micro)brewers, Dutch beer culture is alive like never before. Consumers are also becoming more critical and experimental. Lager consumption is declining, while craft beer is only becoming more popular. With Proeflokaal MOUT, Susan Huitenga taps into this interesting development.
