Tasting in Groningen: the culinary event of the North

On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September 2015, the eighth edition of Proeven in Groningen (PIG) will take place in the Oude Kijk in ’t Jatstraat. The culinary event of the North, for and by Groningen, revolves around tasting dishes, cooking workshops, and a cooking competition.

Grand stage for restaurants
It is difficult to choose from the wide range of restaurants in Groningen. A solution has been found for that. During PIG Visitors can sample dishes from top restaurants in the province. For a small price (€1.50 to €4.50), there is something special to taste at every stall. In small quantities, so that you can discover new flavors at as many stalls as possible. This year, visitors will enjoy the incredibly delicious snacks and drinks from no fewer than eighteen participants.

Cooking workshops
To give this culinary weekend a kickstart, in addition to feasting on the most delicious dishes on Saturday, visitors can participate in excellent cooking workshops made possible by main sponsor Makro. Under the guidance of a real chef and in the culinary environment of Tasting in Groningen They will learn to prepare culinary masterpieces. In addition, it is the perfect opportunity to ask a professional questions. Tickets can be won via the event's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/proeveningroningen.

Cooking competition
On Sunday, an expert jury will examine the tasty dishes prepared by the student chefs. This year, six students from Campus Winschoten will showcase their culinary skills. One of them will be the proud winner of the professional chef's jacket and the silver fork. It is no easy task to convince the expert jury of the culinary creations. Jean-Michel Henge, owner and head chef of restaurant Muller, applies his expertise to evaluate the tastings. Jean-Michel Henge is assisted by subject teachers from Noorderpoort Groningen.

Anticipation
The anticipation starts a few weeks before PIG. At all participating restaurants, and later during the event itself, you can pick up the PIG magazine and the recipe booklet packed with delicious dishes for free. How about a braised beef shank from Groningen pasture-raised beef on grogortotto with clove jus, or beef tartare with mushrooms and a cepes cream? You can also view them online at www.proeveningroningen.nl you will find links to both the magazine like the recipe book.
