Acquisition

The acquisition marks the end of the collaboration between the Kappenburg and Dalebout couples. A partnership that began in 2008, when Fred Dalebout started as general manager of the Martini Hotel in the city center of Groningen. Two years later, Fred Dalebout and his wife Ilona became 50% owners of the Martin Hotel Group (MGH). At that time, it still consisted of the Martini Hotel, It Bud gett hostel and the renowned restaurant Weeva.

Expansion

In the years that followed, the Martini Hotel Group expanded with the Brinkhotel in Zuidlaren and the Rabenhaupt Tavern on the Zuiderdiep in Groningen. Messrs. Kappenburg and Dalebout purchased restaurant De Rietschans on Lake Paterswold in 2013. After a complete renovation, this establishment burned to the ground 80 days after reopening. In September 2016, a rebuilt and ultra-modern restaurant De Rietschans, with an impressive terrace overlooking the lake, was able to welcome its first guests again.

De Rietschans was not part of the Martini Hotel Group, but did utilize services and management from the hotel group. Frans and Liesbeth Kappenburg are now focusing entirely on the businesses they operate or will operate on the Meerweg in Haren. Previously, they also took the initiative for the construction of the Paterswoldsemeer beach pavilion, also on the Meerweg. The operation of this pavilion is now in the hands of a management team.

The Kappenburg couple is directly involved in the development of the Motel Haren project, which recently adopted the name Nescio Hotel Haren Contributes, at the end of Emmalaan in the vicinity of the on and off ramps of the A28 motorway. At this location, following the demolition of the current buildings, a hotel with 120 rooms and 100 apartments in a number of building blocks is to be constructed. The initial discussions regarding these plans with the Municipality of Groningen are proceeding favorably.

The Martini Hotel Group of the Dalebout couple recently expanded its operations in the city center of Groningen with the opening of Bar 1672 on the Gedempte Zuiderdiep. In a monumental building with a rich history, a new hospitality concept has been established there, primarily intended to allow guests to enjoy food and drink in peace and quiet. Fred and Ilona Dalebout's businesses are mainly concentrated around the Martini Hotel on the Zuiderdiep.
