The city of Groningen's rich pub life chronicled

Therefore, the Groningen Pub Book will be presented on Monday, October 7, 2013, during the Groningen Hospitality Fair in the Martinikerk.

The city of Groningen has traditionally had a rich hospitality scene. This was already the case in the time when grain and textile merchants frequently flocked to the city to conduct their trade.
The many cafes were necessary to quench the thirsty throats of the merchants and their staff. Much later, students and young people joined them, moving from the countryside to the city. The Groningen Chamber of Commerce currently counts 574 businesses with a hospitality license, half of which are cafes (pubs).
Joris van Berkel known for, among other things: www.horecagroningen.nl www.leukstebartender.nl www.groningerhorecabeurs.nl www.detapwedstrijd.nl, is the initiator of documenting a large number of these pubs. He has assembled an editorial team that will put its impression of the pubs in question on paper in concise terms, and he will self-publish the book. Van Berkel builds upon previous publications about the hospitality scene in the city of Groningen.
Journalist Remco in ’t Hof was the last, in 1996, with his book ‘De verleiding van Groningen’.

With a special introduction about the hospitality scene in the city of Groningen, written by Youp van ’t Hek, the Groninger Kroegenboek will be presented on Monday, October 7.
