Stadtlander celebrates its 40th anniversary

In the month of September, we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of eetcafé de Stadtlander with a different promotion every week.

In 1977, the City dweller, as one of the first eateries, opened its doors. The current owner, Teddy Harkema, has been at the helm since 1985 and took over the business in 1993.

With its unique conservatory, brown interior, and convivial atmosphere, the Stadtlander is a household name in the city center of Groningen and will continue to exist in its current form.

The main photo shows the scene that took place in 1986, when the Stadtlander switched from Oranjeboom to Heineken. Teddy Harkema tapped the first Heineken beer from the large keg that stood on a beer wagon pulled by two Frisian horses. The horse and wagon first made a few rounds through the city center of Groningen, displaying the text: “From April 1st, Stadtlander taps Heineken”.
