Tropical temperatures are back. According to the KNMI, afternoon temperatures on Tuesday, July 22 and Wednesday, July 23, 2014, will reach 27 degrees or higher. This means that the Tropical Weather Scenario (TWS) is once again in effect for the hospitality industry. Terraces are allowed to remain open longer on these days.

Later in the week, municipal hospitality inspectors will assess whether the TWS will also apply to the following days. The weather forecasts are promising. Last week, the Tropical Weather Scenario was also in effect from Thursday, July 17, to Sunday, July 20.

Tropical Weather Scenario
Hospitality business owners are allowed to keep their terraces open one hour longer on days when the weather forecast is 27°C or higher. Former Mayor Rehwinkel decided this three years ago. This means until 3:00 AM within the Diepenring and until 2:00 AM outside the Diepenring. Furthermore, they may place terrace chairs outside as early as 11:00 AM in a larger area than usual. Hospitality business owners without a terrace permit may also place tables and chairs outside on those days, provided that pedestrian passage is not obstructed.

Liveliness
The rules on tropical days have been relaxed to promote vibrancy in the city and to allow citizens and the hospitality industry to benefit from the fine weather. The municipality's hospitality inspectors determine whether the Tropical Weather Scenario applies based on the KNMI weather forecast.
