The Taste of Steakhouse Bronco

For years, this steakhouse has had a permanent spot on the Grote Markt, beneath the Drie Gezusters. Slightly hidden in the vaulted cellar, recognizable by the red neon letters on the facade. It started out as Ribhouse Bronco, but because more and more types of grilled meat were added to the menu over the years, the name was changed.

Thick steaks

‘The restaurant originally started as a business inspired by America,’ says owner Just van Bodegom. ‘Bronco is an American horse, and the stars and stripes can still be found here and there.’ But the real American feel is meant to come from the menu. It features spareribs and thick steaks, grilled naturally. Sourced from a butcher shop in Hoogezand.

Plenty to choose from

Picanha, ribeye, T-bone, and tenderloin in various sizes. Along with a choice of different sauces to top it off. How about creamy mushroom, green peppercorn, garlic blue cheese, or a nice, fresh chimichurri, for example? Furthermore, there is also a wide selection of burgers, a surf & turf dish, and a few burritos.

Wash it down with a nice cold beer? Brewery Eggens is well represented in Bronco, and nice and local.

Vegan burger

There is also room for non-meat eaters at Bronco. "You simply can't ignore that anymore these days," says Just. That is why the steakhouse now features a vegan dish on the menu: the vegan burger (from Redefine Meat) with vegan cheese and vegan bun. "If I make it for you with an egg and a slice of bacon on top, it is indistinguishable from the real thing," says Just. "We were the very first in Groningen to serve it," he adds.

Then there is also a small menu with grilled fish and a cheese fondue. In short, something for everyone.

For everyone

The cliché that steakhouses are only frequented by large groups of meat-eating men doesn't apply here. "We really are for everyone," Just explains. "Bachelor parties are held here regularly, but we also get couples, people with their children, or football clubs with something to celebrate. And we are busiest of all when the TT is on."
