Tenth edition of Nacht van de Fooi raises 75,000 euros!

Last Saturday, fourteen cities were dedicated to the Night of the Tip. On this day, 521 pubs, restaurants, and nightlife venues donated their tips to five small-scale and sustainable development projects under the motto ‘Keep the change, Change the world’. In the cities of Amsterdam, Breda, The Hague, Eindhoven, Enschede, Groningen, Leiden, Maastricht, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, Tilburg, Utrecht, Wageningen, and Zwolle, the city turned blue and people gave generously. After being matched by Impulsis, a supporter of private initiatives in development cooperation, a total of at least 75,000 euros was raised.

In the fourteen cities, approximately one hundred students organized various activities to draw attention to the Night of the Tip. The national opening took place in Leiden this year. An exhibition featuring works by Fred Mutebi, an artist affiliated with Children of Uganda, was held in the Hartebrugkerk. A flash mob turned the Koopgoot in Rotterdam blue, and the Domplein in Utrecht served as the backdrop for many performances in the sun.

The proceeds from 2014 benefit five projects in Africa and South America. Kinderen van Uganda ensures better nutrition for children by establishing ‘school farms’. CooP-Africa improves the mobility of Kenyan farmers by providing bicycles on credit. This gives these farmers better access to the market, and the bicycle can provide another source of income. Niños de Guatemala (NDG) spends the funds on setting up capacity building, professional development, and training for the employees of two schools founded by NDG. Mirre uses the proceeds to repair disused water pumps in ten villages in Burkina Faso. Finally, EducAIDed facilitates training for school staff in South Africa to improve the quality of education and achieve growth.

Nacht van de Fooi raised a huge amount last Saturday and brought development cooperation to the attention of the nightlife crowd in a positive way. This year's proceeds are thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of all volunteers, hospitality staff, patrons, sponsors, and Impulsis.
