Over the past few days, counterfeit fifty-euro banknotes have been used to pay market operators and shopkeepers in the city of Groningen on several occasions. We would like to draw the attention of hospitality business owners to checking banknotes extra carefully under UV light or with a counterfeit money detector during the coming period.
“It’s been happening a lot this year. We want to warn everyone about counterfeit money once again.” “This time, it involves very well-made fake fifty-euro notes. At first glance, nothing seems wrong; the hologram in the bottom right works. But the paper is different, and the watermark and the silver band in the middle are missing.”
Characteristics of counterfeit banknotes are:
– Absence of a watermark
– The neon drawing on the banknote not lighting up under UV light
– Missing yellow and orange neon streaks across the entire banknote
– A counterfeit banknote often lights up completely under UV light due to the cheap type of paper.
– The silver-colored hologram in the counterfeit banknote does not work in daylight
– The paper type feels thinner and less greasy due to the cheap and thin ink layer
At the moment, only counterfeit twenty and fifty euro banknotes are being reported.
Be well prepared and file a report should this happen to you!
